This is a split CD from Canada’s Ostie and France’s Zarach Baal Tharagh, who since 2000 has released over a hundred demos. The former act is the brainchild of Prince Grothmer The Cruel Of Cobaltia, founder and sole member. Musically the five tracks he recorded for this split sound recorded live, completely raw, with no effects or overdubs added. The structure and progressions are actually quite good once you’ve looked past the sound and production, though the vocals could use additional work. Z.B.T. founder Luc Mertz has personified the D.I.Y. attitude like no other black metal musician since he began recording his work. While most of his demos have been released independently a handful have been released on indie labels every now and again. His seven tracks for this split are all untitled, adding to the mystique around his project. These songs are even rawer and more abrasive than those contributed by Ostie, with much more distortion, but in many instances you can discern the guitar progressions and it doesn’t sound too much like a sonic blur. You can find some information about both these bands at the above links at Encyclopedia Metallum.
